An 'A-list' website for Pinewood
31 Aug 2011
Multiply has just completed work on a new website for the world famous Pinewood Studios Group.
Synonymous with world class British and international productions, the impressive heritage of its UK-based Pinewood, Shepperton and Teddington Studios date back to the early 20th Century and are home to some of the most successful feature films and TV shows ever made. Renowned across the globe for excellence in its field, the Pinewood brand is now being exported overseas to studios in Toronto - Canada, Berlin – Germany, Iskandar – Malaysia and the Dominican Republic.
With its recent expansion into new territories, the Pinewood Studios Group wanted to take the opportunity to redevelop its website. It wanted to build on Pinewood’s heritage by looking to the future, embracing new technologies and creating a hub for online and mobile activity allowing the Group to continue with its strategy for growth.
Following a competitive pitch process, Pinewood briefed Multiply to create an international website that would appeal to film industry professionals, allow its services and facilities to be easily accessed and reflect the industry status of Pinewood. It had to be class leading and it had to look great!
Multiply chose to create a solution using Drupal, an enterprise class CMS, at its core. The site was built on a foundation of HTML5 knowing that the goal was to allow browsers all the way from IE6 to an executive on their iPad to deliver a high quality user experience.
Throughout the site, carefully planned content linking allowed intelligent delivery of supporting content to always be shown and Pinewood facilities and services promoted. Microformats were implemented for addresses to allow intelligent importing of the information into Microsoft and Apple contact lists and increases the ‘findability’ of the information by search engines.
At every point the most flexible, future proof and backwards compatible solutions were deployed resulting in a website that has has both great flexibility and aesthetics.
The design and build of the website was managed by Daniel Lennox, Technology Systems Manager for the Pinewood Studios Group and by Mark Reilly for Multiply.
Paul Baker, Executive Vice President at Pinewood USA remarked,
“This is the first digital project Multiply have undertaken for The Pinewood Group and we’ve been hugely impressed by both their technical expertise and project management skills. Every challenge they encountered in the build process was tackled with enthusiasm and intelligent practicality. Throughout the process Multiply shared our vision and embraced it fully, overcoming all the digital challenges that presented themselves throughout the journey. They have delivered a ‘best in class’ website, which most importantly, adds real value to the user experience.”
